Our exhibition of large scale sculptures has been created by a diverse collective of artists. With a sculpture for each of the 10 themes of The Stories of Us, the artists have brought their own stories, insights and genius to invite you to explore our shared past and present so that together we can reimagine a future for all.

OUR ARTISTS
THE SCULPTURE //
THE TALKING DRUM

The Stories of Us exhibitions consist of large scale drum sculptures conceived and designed by the maker Jomo Tariku.
We loved Jomo’s concept of drums as the creative foundation of our sculptures. Across cultures and geography; across time and occasion, drums have brought and bring people together for storytelling, commemoration, celebration and expression
.
They have provided the heartbeat of communities for generations; the soundtrack to events that defined our everyday and moments of history; and created space for communications that required no translation.
Our sculpture is inspired by the talking drum, whose origins are in West Africa. For centuries, this instrument was used to communicate between peoples over long distances. The drums offer artists large scale canvases and, together, create spectacular spaces for exploration and connection.
